10 Tips for Traveling by Coach

With thousands of people travelling by coaches every year, we have come up with a list of 10 tips that can help you make your journey more comfortable and fun!

1.Dress comfortably

When embarking on a long coach journey, we recommend dressing as comfortably as you can. Place function over fashion and wear loose, breathable clothing that allows you to move more freely. Layers can be useful since they allow you to adjust your clothing according to temperature changes. In addition, opt for comfortable shoes that can be slipped on and off easily.

2.Bring a travel pillow and blanket

Whether you want to sleep or simply relax, bringing a travel pillow and blanket with you will be incredibly useful. Choose a U-shaped neck pillow that cradles the neck and provides support from different angles. Also a lightweight blanket can help keep you warm if it gets chilly during the journey.

3.Bring on board a small bag with essential items

Pack any items that you think will make your journey more comfortable in a small bag and have it with you in the cabin. These could include a copy of your travel documents, small snacks, a water bottle, earplugs, headphones, a tablet, a book, an eye mask, hand sanitiser, tissues as well as any required medications you might need during the journey. However when it comes to snacks, food and beverages, it is recommended to always ask the driver beforehand as many travel companies do not allow guests to eat on their coaches.

4.Take breaks

When the coach makes a stop, take the opportunity to have a walk around and stretch your legs. Moving around, stretching and getting some fresh air will improve your circulation and reduce any stiffness or discomfort. Also, don’t forget to go to the toilet when the coach stops for a break – this could be your only chance, depending on the facilities on board.

5.Carry some change

Some service stations may require a small charge in order to use the toilets, so keep some change to hand. In other cases, you may be required to pay and take a ticket to use the WC facilities. These tickets can then be used against payment for items bought from the service area shop.

6.Keep a travel diary

With so much to see and do, why not use the time while travelling from place to place to record your experiences in a holiday journal. Not only will it help you identify places in your photos, it’ll also jog your memory when you return home.

7.Make friends

Wheather you are travelling solo, with your significant other or friends, take time to get to know some of your fellow passengers. Especially when travelling with a group, this may be a great opportunity to meet interesting people and make new friends. Take some time to get acquainted with your travel-buddies, it will make the whole trip much more fun!

8.Engage with your Tour Leader/ Read a Travel Guide

Before you reach any stops throughout your journey, take some time to learn about the place or landmark you are visiting. Your tour leader may have some very interesting facts to share, that will make your visit even more engaging and even maybe some suggestions for lunch or dinner, should you decide try the local shops and cuisine. Also, many travel guides have loads of interesting inforrmation and tips for the location you are visiting so make sure to have a pocket-sized one handy.

9.Change your seated position regularly and don’t slouch

In order to avoid lower back pain it’s best to change your position regularly and avoid slouching. This will help your blood flow and avoid prolonged pressure on one area. Remember, slouching puts pressure on your lower back and can make you stiff and uncomfortable. Try to remember to sit up straight for as long as possible with good posture.

10.Organize your phone photos & make a trip album

When travelling, it’s normal (and quite common) to end up with an overcrowded collection of photos on your phone and when you get back home, it will be even harder to take the time to sort them out. A long bus ride is a good opportunity to review your photos and clear out unwanted images. This way, by the end of your trip you will have a beautiful selection of photos to show to your friends and family! (Ps: This can also be combined with your travel diary! )
